Overview
Imagination Station, Toledo’s Science Center is the region’s resource in interactive Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education. We offer a mind on, body on, hands on experience with hundreds of interactive exhibits, activities and demonstrations that teach vital science concepts. The science center is a hub of learning that provides the tools necessary to thrive in the 21st century and that shapes future scientists and innovators. We represent the idea that the sciences are more than theorems or formulas on a page, but are powerful concepts that can allow a wide-eyed child to ride a bike across a high wire and learn about where they get their energy. 
Description:
The Manager of People and Culture will advance the organization by delivering high quality Human Resources initiatives and support. Reporting to the People and Culture Officer, this position will assist in a wide range of initiatives to advance efforts in culture, recruitment, inclusion and training and create a science center known for a culture of belonging that permeates all of its activities.
Responsibilities:
  • Develops strategies to identify diverse talent; establishes and conducts recruitment and hiring process for all employees from collaborating with managers on crafting job descriptions through extending job offers
  • Processes payroll on a bi-weekly basis and assists with administration of the 403B retirement fund
  • Conducts pre-employment screens and on boarding of new employees and volunteers
  • Establishes plans for the recruitment and retention of a diverse volunteer base
  • Communicates, and administers HR policies and procedures that maintain and improve employee relations and shape organizational culture
  • Handles all BWC cases and OSHA reporting
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Provides support and guidance to other staff when complex and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Assists the People and Culture Officer with the development and implementation of a cohesive belonging plan and tracking key metrics
  • Keeps up to date with regulatory and policy developments related to staff and volunteer matters, and stays abreast of best practices and trends in the field
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
  • Experience in executing recruitment strategies for paid staff and volunteers.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s payroll and application systems
  • Experience in developing solutions and implementing strategies with a focus on diversity and inclusion efforts.
  • Understanding of best practices and experience in building inclusive and engaged workplaces: cultural awareness and sensitivity with lens on racial and gender equity; experience supporting a multi-generation workforce.
  • Resourceful and able to find creative solutions, thinking beyond current systems and approaches, while recognizing the impact of decisions and actions on the entire organization.
